Qualification summary

This qualification is aimed at personnel working within the cleaning and support services sector. It has been designed to provide accreditation to those who are able to demonstrate competence against the occupational standards defined for Cleaning and Support Services at this level.

This qualification will benefit specialist cleaners, those looking to formalise their knowledge and understanding as part of continuing professional development and those who undertake cleaning tasks as one aspect of their job role.

Candidates must achieve a minimum of 18 credits to achieve the qualification.

This will be made up of: 7 credits from Mandatory Group A, a minimum of 2 credits from Mandatory Group B and a further 9 credits (minimum) to be taken from Optional Group C.

A - Mandatory Group

Credit Value required: Minimum 7, Maximum 7.
Sub-components required: Minimum 3, Maximum 3.

Candidates must complete all units from this group to a total of seven credits.

  • Develop yourself in the job role
  • Reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace
B - Mandatory Group

Credit Value required: Minimum 2, Maximum 3.
Sub-components required: Minimum 1, Maximum 1

Candidates must choose one unit from this group, with a minimum credit value of two credits.

  • Work with others and follow reporting procedures in a cleaning environment
  • Work individually and follow reporting procedures in a cleaning environment
C - Optional Units

Credit Value required: Minimum 9, Maximum 15.
Sub-components required: Minimum 3, Maximum 3.

Candidates must complete three units from this group, to a minimum total value of nine credits.

  • Clean and maintain internal surfaces and areas
  • Clean and maintain external surfaces and areas
  • Deal with routine waste
  • Clean washrooms and replenish supplies
  • Deep clean equipment and surfaces
  • Deal with non-routine waste
  • Perform street cleansing manually
  • Perform street cleansing mechanically

There are other optional units but these are the one most used by street cleaning candidates
